Pancake Day 2017 - Where to find the best Dutch pancakes in London
"Stacked Dutch pancakes" combines street food and pancakes with these perfect mini Dutch pancakes
Tuesday February 28 is the one day this year where it is perfectly acceptable to eat as many pancakes as you want. It is pancake day!
In preparation for pancake day we have found a place that serves the most delicious mini pancakes served with topping of your choice. The place is called Stacked Dutch Pancakes and it is located in both Camden Lock Market and Brick Lane Market.
Nutella and maple syrup
At the pancake stand you can choose between 10 or 15 pieces of mini pancakes and add topping like warm melted nutella, maple syrup or whipped cream. If you want a little extra thing you can add strawberries or sliced bananas.
This place is highly popular so if you want to avoid a queue get there before lunchtime.
"After lunchtime the place is full and the queue is long. People love pancakes and this location at Camden is perfect for attracting people," Ihana, who has worked at the stand for four months, told me.
Why we celebrate pancake day
Pancake day is always 47 days before Easter and the day before the first day of Lent, known as Ash Wednesday.
Traditionally people wanted to get rid of any indulgences foods before the beginning of Lent, and making pancakes was a way of using up eggs, flour and milk
Pancake day is also known as “shrove Tuesday”. The word “shrove” derives from the word “shrives”, which means to free yourself from sins.
